Barry Manilow Bio
Barry Manilow’s unparalleled career is made up of virtually every facet of music, including performing, composing, arranging and producing. He has triumphed in every medium of entertainment. He has received Grammy, Emmy and Tony Awards and has been nominated for an Academy Award. In January 2002, Manilow launched LIVE2002! after ringing in the New Year at Los Angeles’ most prestigious new concertvenue, the Kodak Theatre. The tour follows the release of Here At The Mayflower on November 13, 2001. Manilow’s latest CD, Here At The Mayflower, set in a fictitious apartment building called “The Mayflower,” is an original addition to Manilow’s catalog. Twenty years in the making, the Number One Adult Contemporary Artist of all time (according to Radio & Records Magazine) wanted to be sure Here At The Mayflower was everything he wanted it to be. Manilow explains, “It’s enabled my collaborators and me to write songs about people of all ages and walks of life… this album is all about people, and friendships… and the cycles in life that we all go through”(Billboard 2001). Here At The Mayflower is Manilow’s 31st album. Among his 31 albums are such diverse recordings as Manilow Sings Sinatra (1998)Singin’ with the Big Bands (1994), Showstoppers (1991), Swing Street (1987), 2:00 A.M. Paradise Café (1984), Because It’s Christmas (1990), and many others, including 38 Top 40 Hits. In addition, every album he has produced for other artists, including Bette Midler, Nancy Wilson, and Dionne Warwick, has been nominated for Grammy Awards. His film credits include the Oscar-nominated “Ready To Take A Chance Again” (from Foul Play), a song for the soundtrack of Walt Disney’s Oliver and Company, and the soundtracks for the animated features Thumbelina and The Pebble and the Penguin.
His television appearances have been well received. Taped in Hollywood at the new Kodak Theatre, the one-hour TV special, Ultimate Manilow, aired on CBS in May of 2002. In 2000 alone, he taped Manilow Live! for DirectTV, followed by a Barry Manilow Country special on TNN. A two-hour A&E special, Barry Manilow: Live by Request aired in 1996 as the highest rated music show in the network’s history. Manilow also appeared on the TV comedy Murphy Brown and most recently on the popular series Ally McBeal. Manilow’s career in the theater ranges from his Tony Award-winning Broadway debut in 1977 to the June 2001 opening of “Could It Be Magic? – The Barry Manilow Songbook.” Manilow worked with Mitzie & Ken Welch to create a show that has “something for everyone.” The music is brought to life by an ensemble of five very talented performers and a six-piece band. “From pop to hip-hop to gospel and rock, the talented cast delivers it all!” (Chicago Sun-Times). The world premiere of his musical, Harmony (with book and lyrics by Bruce Sussman) enjoyed a successful run at the La Jolla Playhouse and is heading to Broadway. The musical is based on the true story of The Comedian Harmonists, a singing group of six young men who attempted to find harmony during the discordant times that led to the rise of Nazi Germany. His collaboration with Sussman also created the debut of Barry Manilow’s Copacabana – The Musical in the U.K. a few years ago. Inspired by his hit single, “Copacabana,” the elaborate two-act musical spectacular ran to packed houses on London’s West End for 18 months and a national company toured the U.S. He made his literary debut in 1987 with the publication of his autobiographical Sweet Life: Adventures on the Way to Paradise. Barry Manilow is involved with worthwhile charities and humanitarian efforts around the world, including The Prince’s Trust, United Way, the Starlight Foundation, numerous organizations fighting the battle against AIDS, and many others. He is the national spokesperson for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. He is also a member of the National Academy of Jazz Board of Governors and the Music Center of Los Angeles.

How do I hire Barry Manilow for a private event, corporate event, nonprofit gala or convention?
To hire Barry Manilow for a private or corporate performance, the event buyer must first determine whether the artist is available and interested in the proposed engagement and then submit an offer through the appropriate authorized representative. The offer typically includes the event date and location, type of event, proposed performance format and fee.
Celebrity Direct represents event buyers throughout this process, including availability inquiries, offer strategy, negotiation, contracting, rider review and production coordination.
How much does it cost to hire Barry Manilow for a private or corporate event?
There is no single published fee to hire Barry Manilow for a private or corporate event. The performance fee is negotiated for the specific engagement and can vary based on the date, location, event type, performance format, travel requirements, current touring activity and other circumstances surrounding the event.
Celebrity Direct can obtain current availability and pricing from the appropriate artist representative for a specific event.
What total budget should I expect when hiring Barry Manilow?
The total cost of presenting Barry Manilow can be higher than the negotiated artist performance fee. Depending on the engagement, additional expenses can include airfare or private aviation, hotels, local transportation, sound, lighting, staging, backline, labor, hospitality and other requirements contained in the artist’s rider.
For this reason, event buyers should evaluate the all-in cost of the performance, not simply the artist fee, before making an offer.
How can I find out if Barry Manilow is available for my event date?
Barry Manilow’s availability for a private or corporate event must be confirmed through the appropriate authorized representative. Availability can depend on touring and recording commitments, personal scheduling, event location, travel requirements and whether the artist is interested in the particular engagement.
Celebrity Direct can submit the event details, check availability and determine whether an offer is appropriate.
How do I contact Barry Manilow’s booking agent about a private performance?
A corporate, nonprofit or private-event buyer generally does not need to locate Barry Manilow’s booking agent personally. An experienced talent buyer can identify the appropriate authorized representative, present the event professionally and manage the inquiry and offer process on the buyer’s behalf.
Celebrity Direct handles this process for its clients and represents the event buyer rather than the artist.
How do I contact Barry Manilow’s manager about hiring them for an event?
Artist management is not necessarily the appropriate first contact for negotiating a private performance. Celebrity engagements are generally handled through the artist’s authorized booking representation, management or another designated representative depending on the circumstances.
Celebrity Direct determines the appropriate contact for the proposed engagement and handles the communication and negotiation for the event buyer.
Will Barry Manilow perform at a corporate event, convention, nonprofit gala or private party?
Whether Barry Manilow will consider a particular private or corporate performance depends on their availability, the nature and location of the event, the proposed performance, the financial offer and artist approval. Celebrity artists are not simply available for every event at a published price.
A legitimate inquiry should therefore include enough information about the event for the artist’s representatives to evaluate the opportunity.
What information do I need before asking about hiring Barry Manilow?
Before requesting availability or pricing for Barry Manilow, an event buyer should ideally know the event date, city and venue, type of event, expected attendance, desired performance format and approximate entertainment budget.
Providing these details allows the artist’s representatives to evaluate the engagement and allows an experienced talent buyer to recommend the most effective offer strategy.
Does the quoted artist fee include travel and production?
Usually, the artist’s performance fee should not be assumed to represent the complete cost of the engagement. Travel, hotels, ground transportation, production, equipment, labor and hospitality requirements may be additional obligations of the buyer depending on the negotiated contract and rider.
The contract and rider should be reviewed before the event buyer determines the final entertainment budget.
Can Celebrity Direct handle the complete Barry Manilow booking and production process?
Celebrity Direct can represent the event buyer throughout a celebrity entertainment engagement, including determining availability, developing the offer, negotiating with the artist’s authorized representative, reviewing contracts and riders, coordinating production requirements and assisting with the performance through event day.
Unlike an artist’s agent or manager, Celebrity Direct works on the buyer’s side of the transaction, helping the event planner understand the financial, contractual and production obligations involved in presenting celebrity talent.
