Whitney Houston, R&B/pop singer, actress, former fashion model, occasional songwriter and producer and pop icon. She is known for her soulful voice, vocal power and range and skill. Her debut album was released in 1985 to considerable critical and commercial international success, and she went on to release a still-record seven consecutive number-one hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. She was one of a handful of artists who received heavy-rotation on MTV during the network's early years in the 1980s. Houston continued her success into the 1990s with the release of several films and their corresponding soundtrack albums, the most popular of which was The Bodyguard (1992), which produced the extremely successful single "I Will Always Love You". However Houston's sales seemed to be on the decline after the year 2000, as her success seemed meager in comparison with her earlier career, with the high point of the era for her being the 2002 release of her studio album Just Whitney which has only sold over 4 million copies worldwide to date. Houston is one of the highest selling artists in music history, having sold over 120 million albums and 50 million singles, as of 2002. In late 2006, she was named as the most awarded female artist of all time by the Guinness World Records foundation.
